A Malaysian Soprano?
Hmm... I am not too sure how many Malaysians are actually exposed to the opera. I personally think not too many. It's the norm to hear someone saying that opera aria is always sung by a screaming fat lady. Hehehe... in a way its kinda true. More than half of the sopranos are kinda big sized lady. :-)
Recently in the One in A Million audition, a young girl sang the 'Ibu, ibu, engkaulah ratu hati ku' in a mezzo soprano style (*no idea what the actual title of the song) but its very good, i reckon. After that, she sang a classical opera aria, Ah! Je Ris, taken from the opera titled 'Faust' by Charles Gounod.

Yea,
Urban myth does say that if one has a layer of fat around one's throat or neck, one can produce a smoother and rounded voice. I guess it is quite right in view of many overweight sopranos but it is not always true.
As for dramatic wagnerian sopranos, since the tones and colours of voice are of prime concern, therefore they do not need to have big physique (look at Flagstad, Elisabeth) but for lyrical and coloratura sopranos, they volume and range are pretty much a major concerns, therefore we see Caballe, and Callas (she was good when she was Fat hehehe).
Faust, was is the aria that sung by Margeuritta in the opera...nice opera.
